A true mineral poem, opal combines telluric power with absolute refinement. More than a stone, it is a fragment of eternity, a natural work destined for those who seek beauty in its purest and most precious form.

The Scale of Wonder

Grade AAAA | The Exceptional : The absolute pinnacle of the mineral kingdom.
A flawless stone, boasting phenomenal brilliance and a museum-quality pattern. This is the centerpiece, destined for the most discerning collectors in search of the Holy Grail.

Grade AAA | The Prestige : A masterful stone offering 360° electric fire.
The perfect balance between "neon" color intensity and unparalleled crystal-clear transparency.

Grade AA | Elegance : A gem of character with vivid and deep reflections.
It embodies the splendor of Ethiopian opals with a constant and refined chromatic poetry.

Grade AAAA: Absolute Perfection (Gem Grade)
The AAAA grade designates the world elite, the "one in a thousand" of extractions.
  • Brightness : Rated 5/5, described as "blinding". The stone seems to possess its own internal light source, even in near total darkness.
  • The Play of Colors : Perfect multidirectional saturation. The colors are pure, without any mixing of gray or brown, and cover 100% of the stone's volume.
  • The Pattern : The most complex patterns (Harlequin, Honeycomb, Flagstone) are here with surgical precision, with clear and distinct color borders.
  • The Investment: More than just a stone, it's a heritage asset. An AAAA opal is a geological rarity whose value transcends mere aesthetics to reach the level of a global exception.

Grade AAA: Magnetic Prestige
The AAA grade represents the excellence of fine jewelry, combining rare intensity with crystalline clarity.
  • Brightness : A brightness rating of 4.5/5. The lights are described as "electric" or "neon", instantly catching the eye even under dim lighting.
  • The Play of Colors : A total chromatic presence across the entire gem. The colors are vivid, saturated, and express themselves across the entire solar spectrum without any shadow areas.
  • The Pattern : The patterns are crisp and spectacular (Rolling Flash, Broad Flash, Floral). Each movement of the stone reveals a new layer of color with great precision.
  • The Prestige : A stone of exceptional lineage that embodies the splendor of Welo opals. It is the preferred choice for those seeking striking beauty and undeniable collector quality.

Grade AA: Elegance of Character
The AA grade designates gems of great nobility, favoring the harmony of colors and the poetry of the crystal.
  • Brightness : A brightness rated 3.5 to 4/5. The shine is clear and warm, offering silky reflections that come alive gracefully under direct light.
  • The Play of Colors : A rich and balanced chromatic spectrum. Although more subtle, the play of colors runs through almost the entire stone, offering a soothing and refined visual depth.
  • The Pattern : The patterns are graceful and well-defined (Pinfire, Ribbon, Small Floral). They emphasize fine details and fluid transitions between colors.
  • Aesthetics : A gem with character, ideal for those who appreciate the organic and narrative dimension of opal. It offers a perfect balance between natural brilliance and timeless distinction.

Opals | Patterns

1. Noble Patterns (Rare and Highly Sought After)
These are the most geometric and valuable patterns.
  • Harlequin: The "Holy Grail." Large, well-defined square or hexagonal color patches, interlocking like a checkerboard.
  • Pinfire: Tiny, closely spaced dots of color. This is the most common pattern, yet it remains very elegant.
  • Flagstone: Large sections of color with irregular outlines, resembling an old paved path or stone slabs.
  • Straw: Fine, crisscrossing lines that look like strands of straw tossed at random.
  • Ribbon: Parallel, wavy bands of color flowing across the stone, often with fluid hue shifts

2. Kinetic Patterns (Movement)
These patterns change dramatically depending on the viewing angle.
  • Rolling Flash: A broad band of color that appears to move from one end of the stone to the other as it is tilted.
  • Explosion / Starburst: Color that seems to shoot outward from a central point, like fireworks.
  • Cat's Eye: A very precise version of the rolling flash where a single, thin, bright line crosses the center (rare in opals).

3. Organic and Abstract Patterns
  • Chinese Writing: Thin, angular strokes that resemble calligraphic characters.
  • Floral: Soft, rounded patches of color evoking a bouquet of flowers or an Impressionist garden.
  • Fern: Dendritic patterns mimicking the shape of fern leaves or branches.
  • Mackerel: Striated color zones reminiscent of the patterns found on the back of a mackerel fish.
  • Honeycomb: Hexagonal cells bordered by dark or light edges. This pattern is particularly prized in Ethiopian (Welo) opals.

4. Matrix-Specific Structures
Sometimes, the opal is intimately bound to its host rock:
  • Matrix: The opal is dispersed in tiny veins or dots within the rock (often sandstone or ironstone).
  • Boulder: The opal appears as thin natural veins attached to their brown ironstone host rock from Queensland.
